Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside

BALTIC Centre For Contemporary Art is one of the must-see sights in Newcastle, as it houses a number of exciting exhibitions from contemporary artists, photographers and designers from around the world.

Culture lovers will also love Sage Gateshead, which is impossible to miss as part of the Quayside skyline. This unusually shaped building is a specially designed concert hall which has hosted a number of performances by a number of famous musicians.

The Quayside Market is the perfect place to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon, while those looking for something a little more adventurous can take a boat cruise down the Tyne, which will take you all the way to the edge of the North East coast and back..

The Coast

The North East Coast is located a few miles east of NewcastleGateshead and is linked by a number of Metro stations, bus routes and direct roads. The Angel of the North

Since spreading its wings in February 1998, The Angel of the North has become one of the most talked about pieces of public art ever produced. Its wide, open arms greet visitors as they reach Gateshead, whether they come by road or rail. This awe-inspiring piece of public art is visited by 150,000 people a year and is one of the most famous sculptures in the UK.

Theatre Royal

Newcastle’s Theatre Royal is one of only 9 Grade I listed theatre halls in England, the city’s theatre is often regarded as the finest theatre building in the country. The Theatre Royal plays home to the Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, Opera North and Rambert Dance Company. Each year the Theatre Royal hosts over 300 shows which are enjoyed by over 300,000 visitors, this is due to the theatre accommodating the biggest names in dance, drama, music and comedy.

Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle is one of Britain's most iconic castles and is the second largest inhabited castle in England and has been the home of the Percys, Earls and Dukes of Northumberland since 1309. Combining magnificent medieval architecture with sumptuous Italianate State Rooms, Alnwick Castle is one of the UK’s most significant heritage destinations and making it one of the North East’s top tourism destinations. 

In recent years it has also taken starring roles in a number of film and television productions, featuring in Downton Abbey and previously appearing as Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter films.

Utilita Arena (formerly Metro Radio Arena)

The Utilita Arena Newcastle, officially ranked 7th as one of the world’s busiest venues by Pollstar magazine, is the largest concert and exhibition venue in the North East of England and is owned and operated by SMG.
